Mongolia TEE’s History
The work of the Mongolia TEE (Mongolia Theological Education by Extension) began on September 4, 1995 with the setting up of an office and the hiring of two translators. This was the result of a partnership of Joint Christian Services International (JCS International) and World Vision, Mongolia. JCS International provided a leader, Hugh Kemp, a New Zealander with previous exposure to TEE projects in India, and World Vision provided funding. The first course, a Foundation level course, Abundant Life was printed in 1996 after final proof reading and testing. Initially, the MTEE operated under its own Board, but in 2000, after some fruitless discussion about merging with the Union Bible Training Centre, the work came directly under the management of World Vision, Mongolia as a project of World Vision.
The period from 2000 until 2004 was a very active one in the translation and preparation of courses, and the ground work for the Certificate program was laid in these years. An advisory Board was set up in 2004. Between 2004 and 2008 there was continuing debate as to whether the work of the MTEE could be more fruitful as part of WV Mongolia, or as a separate institution with its own registration. In 2008, the decision was taken to separate the MTEE from WV Mongolia and since October 1, 2008 the MTEE has been operationally distinct from WV Mongolia, with a Principal appointed by the Governing Body.
In March 2011, the MTEE was registered with the Mongolia Government as a Non-Governmental Organization serving its membership.
